Republicans Get Lectured By Dick Cheney Who Claims They Have Failed To Defend The Constitution

In a speech to the House of Representatives on January 6, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was addressed by former Vice President Dick Cheney, who called out fellow Republicans for their conduct (D-CA).

Upon being asked by ABC News’ Jonathan Karl why he was in attendance, Cheney said, “It is a historic occasion.” “It is impossible to overstate how crucial it is.

Regarding his meeting with Cheney, Karl said that Cheney expressed his “deep disappointment with the Republican leadership.” His remarks were directed primarily at the way in which officials responded to and dealt with the events of January 6th and the aftermath, as well as their inability to protect the Constitution, according to the report.

“It’s not leadership that reflects any of the people I knew when I worked here for ten years,” he is said to have remarked.

He was joined at the occasion by his daughter, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), who was also there. They were the only Republicans in attendance, since Cheney was 80 at the time.

Since the end of his eight-year term as vice president in 2009, he has remained largely out of the public eye, but his daughter has traded barbs with former President Donald Trump throughout most of his time in the White House, voted to impeach him during his final days in office, and is one of only two Republicans serving on the House Democrats’ committee tasked with investigating the president’s ties to Russia.

The daughter of former Vice President Richard Cheney has previously said that her father is worried about the Republican Party’s condition of affairs. Earlier this year, she said that her father was “very disturbed about where our party is, terribly troubled about where our nation is.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who led Republicans in the Senate during the last two years of Cheney’s presidency, took aim at Democrats in a statement issued soon before his comments were delivered.

“It is particularly shocking to hear some Senate Democrats use the mob’s effort to disrupt our country’s norms, rules, and institutions as a pretext to jettison our country’s norms, rules, and institutions themselves,” McConnell added.
