State Democrat Expelled From Office for Allegedly Embezzling 600k From Institute Funds

Following a vote by the state’s ethics committee, efforts to have a state senator removed from office took a significant step forward.

The Tennessee Senate Ethics Committee has recommended that State Senator Katrina Robinson (D-Memphis) be expelled from the Senate because of her conviction on federal fraud charges. The committee voted 4-1 in favor of the recommendation.

Robinson also faces up to twenty years in a federal prison for her involvement in the case. Theft, embezzlement involving government funds, and wire fraud are all allegations leveled against the Democratic Representative for Tennessee District 33, which includes the Memphis area.

When fraud is performed entirely through the telephone, the internet, fax, or other interstate communication techniques are used to perpetrate the fraud, it is known as wire fraud. A anonymous complaint against Senator Robinson sparked the entire investigation, which began in 2016 and continues today.

A person who did not wish to be identified filed a grievance with the authorities, alleging that Robinson, who was not yet in office, had used grant money issued by the United States government for personal expenses.

In all, the US Department of Health and Human Services awarded The Healthcare Institute more than $2.2 million in grant money to be utilized for research and development purposes. Caterina Robinson, the facility’s founder and director, established the wellness and healthcare job training facility in 2015. Robinson continues to serve as director of the facility today.

With just two students in attendance in the outset, the facility has grown to offer training and resources to more than 600 healthcare professionals. Robinson is a registered nurse who, in addition to her work as a state representative, is said to spend a significant amount of time out of state fighting COVID 19 on the front lines.

Robinson was elected to the position of State Senator for District 33 in Washington, DC, in August of this year. She was elected to the position in November of the same year. From 2019 until the end of her term in office in 2022, she was assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee as well as the Senate Committee on Energy, Agriculture, and Natural Resources (EANR). The TACIR (Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations) had previously appointed her to the commission for the years 2019 and 2020, however she was not reassigned to the commission in 2021. In the month of February 2021,

An official search warrant was issued for Senator Robinson’s house, allowing federal authorities to enter the premises. Senator Robinson’s court records were just recently made public, revealing the allegations against her, which include theft, embezzlement, and wire fraud, among other things.

Senator Robinson is said to have retained around $600.000 of the $2.2 million in funding provided to The Healthcare Institute. According to the charges leveled against her, the senator utilized the allegedly embezzled funds to afford the wedding of her dreams as well as the high-class lifestyle she had always desired.

Senator Robinson maintains her claim of innocence in the affair and says she intends to serve with the same “integrity” and “passion” that she has shown throughout her political career. Senator Robinson is represented in the lawsuit by Janika White, an attorney for the defense.

“Ms. Robinson disputes that there was anything incorrect or unlawful with the transaction,” according to the article. Robinson will be presumed innocent unless and until he is found to be guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The lawsuit against Senator Robinson, however, is extremely unlikely to result in her being allowed to retain her position as a Tennessee State Senator, regardless of the outcome of the court case.

In the case of a government figure who is accused of wrongdoing, the American people do not take these accusations lightly.
