President Trump: I’m Regret I Backed Ben Sasse for Re-election in 2020

During a Thursday tele-rally, former President Donald Trump expressed regret for his support of Republican Sen. Ben Sasse’s 2020 reelection bid, stating that he should “never” have given the endorsement to the conservative Nebraska lawmaker.

In the days leading up to the 2020 presidential election, Trump referred to Sasse as “the least effective Senate Republican.” In an audio recording leaked to the press, the senator slammed the then-president, saying he had “never been on the Trump train.”

During this week’s tele-rally, Trump said of Ben Sasse, “He’s bad news.” “The day after he started hitting me, and we hit much harder than he knows how to hit,” he begged for my endorsement.

During a rally in support of embattled Nebraska gubernatorial candidate Charles Herbster, who is currently facing eight allegations of sexual misconduct — including one from a state lawmaker — Trump referred to Herbster as a “great guy,” a “great guy,” and a “great guy,” respectively.

In response to Herbster’s adamant denials, Trump also dismissed the allegations, calling Herbster a “fine man” who is “innocent of those despicable charges.”

‘The fake news and the Washington establishment are doing everything they can to try and stop Charles,” the former president claimed.

Prior to Trump’s visit, Herbster criticized critical race theory and pushed for tax cuts, while arguing that sexual education should not be a part of the school curriculum.

Herbster told the Make America Great Again supporters at a rally on Sunday that “we’re going to take sex education out of the schools and put it back in the homes where it belongs.”

It is Trump’s relationship with Sasse that is the source of his tit-for-tat with Sasse. President Trump endorsed Sasse’s 2020 presidential campaign in September 2019, noting that he had done a “great job” representing the people of Nebraska.

As a result of Trump’s “alleged” role in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, Sasse called for his impeachment and voted in favor of the motion. He was one of seven Republicans who supported impeachment, along with all 50 Democrats in the Senate.

Furthermore, in his statement in support of convicting the former president in his second impeachment trial, Sasse outlined how he has long rebuked Trump’s claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election.

Sasse said at the time that Trump “lied” about winning the election “by a landslide.” The president has lied about widespread voter fraud and spread conspiracies despite having lost 60 court challenges in a row, many of which were handed down by great judges he nominated.
