Ricky Martin’s nephew has dropped his incest and abuse case against his pop star uncle.
Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, 21, had filed a temporary restraining order against Martin on July 1, alleging that he’s had a sexual relationship with Martin who he said had become abusive and stalked him after the relationship ended.
Martin, 50, had flatly denied the allegations and painted his nephew as a troubled young man with serious mental health issues.
On Thursday, a Puerto Rican judge officially dismissed the TRO, at Sanchez’s request.
Martin appeared in court via Zoom conference but reportedly did not speak.
After the judge’s ruling, he posted a statement on Instagram with the caption: ‘Truth prevails.’
It all started when liberal singer Ricky Martin was slapped with a restraining order for “domestic violence” in Puerto Rico.
His accuser was then identified as his 21-year-old nephew, who is claiming the former pop sensation who sang about “Living La Vida Loca,” was sexually, physically, and psychologically abusing him for nearly a year.
Yahoo News reported that shortly after denying allegations made against him in a domestic violence restraining order that was filed in Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin’s accuser has been revealed.
After the complaint was made anonymously under Law 54, known as the Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act, Martin’s brother Eric Martin revealed the victim is the artist nephew’s Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, according to Marca.
Under the allegations made by his 21-year-old nephew, it is said that he ended a seven-month relationship with Martin and that the “Tu recuerdo” singer did not take it well, consistently reaching out to him and loitering outside his home.
Sanchez added that there was physical and psychological abuse that occurred during the relationship. The legal battle is set to begin on July 21.
Under Puerto Rican law, allegations of incest are taken very seriously. If proven guilty, the artist could be sentenced to up to 50 years in prison.
Ricky Martin vehemently denies the accusations and says he looks forward to the upcoming court proceedings so he can prove his innocence.
Eric Martin, Ricky’s brother claims his nephew suffers from “mental problems” and he’s “very sure that his young relative was not telling the truth.”
A representative for Martin also confirmed that his accuser is a biological relative, disputing initial reports the nephew was the child of a step-sibling.
