Top Chef Contestant Dies of Heart Attack, He Was Only 46-Years-Old

I know I say this a lot, but there have been so many heart attacks happening in young people lately, it’s crazy. And I think, given what the world has just gone through, it’s normal to wonder if there’s some “related reason” for all of this. And it’s not just heart attacks, either. It’s strokes, clots, and just random fainting and whatnot. Now, I know that not everything that goes wrong is “related” to something else. Many of these “sudden deaths” are drug overdoses or tragic suicides. I get that. But again, I think in light of what the world just went through, it would be beneficial to everyone, if somebody went through these heart attack cases in young people and looked to see if there were any links… and that fact that nobody has done that, really says a lot about where we’re at today, and who’s controlling the narrative.

And the reason I bring all of this up is because yet again, I have another young death to report as the result of a heart attack. A former Top Chef contestant died this past weekend. He was only 46 years old. I think of all these “famous” people I report on who are dying like this, and I wonder how many “regular Joe’s” this is happening to, who I don’t know about. Scary.

Deadline reported that Howard “Howie” Kleinberg, the Miami restaurateur who competed in Season 3 of Bravo’s Top Chef, died last weekend after suffering a heart attack. He was 46. “The Top Chef family is saddened to learn about the unexpected passing of Howard Kleinberg from season three,” Bravo said in a statement. “Howie’s passion for cooking filled so many and our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends.”

Kleinberg appeared on the 2007 season Top Chef: Miami. He placed seventh in the competition.

A South Florida native, Kleinberg attended culinary school at Johnson & Wales University in North Miami, according to the Miami Herald. One of his early jobs was in the kitchen at the Hotel Intercontinental in downtown Miami.

His death was announced by his mother Susan Kleinberg, who told The Miami Herald, “I am just finding out how many lives he touched. He was married to his passion in life, which was his cooking.”

Kleinberg followed his appearance on the reality series by opening his own Miami restaurant, Bulldog Barbecue, and later pursued more fine dining endeavors. He also participated annually in the South Beach Wine & Food Festival.

The former Top Chef contestant also supported Taste of the Nation, which raises money to address childhood hunger, and helped raise money for pet shelters. His family asks that donations be made in his memory to the non-profit pet rescue organization Bullies-N-Beyond Rescue or to Feeding South Florida.

Sounds like he was a good guy, who did a lot for his community. That type of good soul will be sorely missed by many.  I hope that his family can find peace and closure and begin to heal from their huge loss.
