Transgender Surgeries To Be Covered Under Medicaid Says Federal Judge

This Thursday, a federal judge ruled that West Virginia must permit Medicaid-eligible transgender patients to get gender-transforming procedures, on the grounds that those with a gender dysphoria diagnosis must receive the same care as people with other medical illnesses. According to U.S. District Judge Robert Chambers for the Southern District of West Virginia, it is discriminatory for the state to prevent Medicaid recipients from having such procedures done while allowing people without a gender dysphoria diagnosis to undergo procedures like mastectomy or vaginoplasty.
