Paul Ryan stated on Fox Business that Republicans had a chance to reclaim the White House in 2024 with anyone other than Donald Trump. Ryan spoke on the former president and his chances of reclaiming the presidency in 2024 during an appearance with presenter Stuart Varney on Tuesday. Trump has made several suggestions that he will run for office again, but he hasn’t formally declared it.
Ryan said that his relationship with Trump has not always been the best, but he argued that Trump is not electable among “suburban voters.”
The suburban voter is the “new swing voter” in American politics, according to Ryan, and it is quite evident that they prefer Republicans over Trump. Therefore, I believe that anyone who is not called Trump is far more likely to win the White House for us.
The former vice presidential contender equated Democrats backing Joe Biden for the 2020 presidential race to picking someone other than Trump to run the party.
Corey said: “It resembles what the Democrats accomplished in certain ways. They switched from Dean and John Kerry in 2004, Bernie and Hillary in 2016, and Bernie and Elizabeth Warren to Joe Biden for the 2020 election. I believe that will be the case for us as well. Since Trump is unpopular with suburban voters, we’ll want to win the White House and defeat the Democrats so badly, but we also know that doing so makes us far more likely to lose.”
Similar remarks regarding Trump have been made recently by Ryan. He argued earlier this month that the reason there aren’t more Republican opponents of Trump is because they are “afraid” of him. However, he asserted that Trump would be the worst choice for Republicans in 2024.
He said, “Why would we want to go with him when we all know he’s so much more likely to lose the White House than anyone else running for president on our side of the aisle?”
In his most recent talk with Varney, Ryan named many other prospective contenders, including Nikki Haley, Mike Pompeo, Mike Pence, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who he believes are more electable than Trump (R).
