Before former President Donald Trump is scheduled to declare Tuesday evening at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida that he will make another run for the White House, MSNBC broadcast video on Tuesday of Republicans quitting a Trump 2024 presidential bid.
The GOP is seething because it was frustrated that the Democrats kept control of the Senate in last week’s midterm elections. The odds are against the GOP narrowly taking control of the House of Representatives. Many of Trump’s backed candidates came up short in their contests, particularly in states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Arizona that were on the line.
Sen. Mitt Romney stated, “I think President Trump was an albatross on the electoral prospects of several of our candidates” (R-UT).
Sen. John Thune declared, “It’s evident that, you know, running on re-litigating the 2020 election is not a winning plan” (R-SD). Many candidates spread the erroneous idea that Trump won the 2020 election, including Arizona GOP governor hopeful Kari Lake.
Sen. Cynthia Lummis stated, “Ron DeSantis is currently the leader of the Republican Party, whether he wants to be or not” (R-WY).
Trump should run for president in 2024, according to 61 percent of GOP voters, according to a Politico-morning Consult poll released on Tuesday.
