The largest individual contributor to a pro-Ron DeSantis super PAC has made it clear that he will stop funding the Florida governor if he does not begin courting GOP moderates.

Republican megadonor Robert Bigelow reportedly told Reuters that he was worried that DeSantis wouldn't be able to beat out former President Donald Trump. The pro-DeSantis super Pac "Never Back Down" has received $20 million from the hotel entrepreneur.

He must change in order to reach the moderates. If he doesn't, he will lose. Extremism won't get you elected, according to Bigelow, who spoke to Reuters. For approving a law in April that forbade abortions in Florida after six weeks, Bigelow criticized the governor.

The billionaire founder of the aerospace company will temporarily stop donating money until DeSantis can demonstrate his ability to raise money "on his own."

"Not until I can tell he can produce more on his own. Bigelow continued, "I'm already too big a percentage. "Many of his donors are still debating."

According to Reuters, Bigelow, the founder of Bigelow Aerospace in Las Vegas, said he wasn't waiting for a specific fundraising amount but that "it's going to be a lot."

Bryan Griffin, a spokesman for the DeSantis campaign, said in a statement to Reuters that they were "grateful" to supporters and donors who gave them "the capacity to compete for the long haul," without specifically mentioning Bigelow.

Bigelow's remarks will probably fuel perceptions that DeSantis, once a donor darling expected to put up a real fight against Trump, is in a downward spiral as his right-wing social policies and wooden personality fail to excite voters.
