Many elite players have clothing-related superstitions. Some people believe wearing a specific sleeve or pair of socks would bring them good fortune. Superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes stunned several NFL fans when he disclosed his superstition in a recent interview.

During Monday night's Denver Broncos 24-22 victory against the Buffalo Bills, quarterback Eli Manning of the Kansas City Chiefs said that he has been wearing the same underpants on game days since the beginning of his professional career when appearing on ESPN's ManningCast with Peyton and Eli Manning. When asked about the superstition, Mahomes responded, "First, my wife Brittany got them for me, so I'm not throwing y'all down, but I have to wear them." "I threw them on that first season at the same time, and we had a pretty good season that season." He went on, "I clean them, I wear them only on game day, so they're not too worn down like these nasty (underwear)."

Naturally, his disclosure of this information caused some people to question his cleanliness, but he acknowledged that he only washes them after a Chiefs game loss—which isn't very often, if you follow NFL football. "At the very least, I wash them sometimes. I mean, how can I wash them if we're having a hot streak? All I have to do is keep it going. He said, "I'll maintain the superstition as long as we're winning.

Mahomes appears to go by the proverb "if it ain't broke, then why fix it." It appears from his current season's numbers that he has been benefiting from wearing fortunate underpants. Mahomes has completed 334 passes for 2,442 yards in nine games, with 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions. According to ESPN, he has completed 229 passes for a completion percentage of 68.6%, which would be the highest in his career if the season ended today.

Mahomes' numbers of 271.3 yards per game and 10.7 yards per completion, respectively, combined with his quarterback rating of 73.0 yards per completion, would rank as the lowest of his career.

Mahomes is on track to have a season passing stat line of 4,612 yards, 15 interceptions, and 32 touchdowns. Mahomes may still be mentioned as the MVP later in the season if he turns up his game in the upcoming weeks when Kansas City's offense is on the field.

#Socialites, do you believe that he and his team's success is due to their underwear?
