Hundreds of people are preparing to travel in a convoy to the Texas border in an effort to halt the entry of migrants from Mexico. With almost 1,600 followers, the organization "Take Our Border Back" is organizing on Telegram. According to Vice, during a planning call, one of the group's leaders referred to them as "God's army." According to Vice, one organizer said, "This is a biblical, monumental moment that's been put together by God."

"We are besieged on all sides by dark forces of evil. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God. It is time for the remnant to rise," another said.

The group's lieutenant colonel, Pete Chambers, has declared himself to be a Green Beret. On Thursday, he discussed the group's intentions with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on his Infowars program. "That's what Green Berets do. Unconventional warfare is our bread and butter. Now we're doing domestic internal defense. What gets us to the enemy quickly is to find, fix, and finish, exploit, analyze, and disseminate," Chambers said, referring to a military process. "That's what we did in Syria when we took out ISIS really quick."

Saying that they were "constitutionally sound," he said the organization will collaborate with law enforcement officials who share their views.

The convoy is scheduled to start on Monday in Virginia Beach, and on February 3, there will be three rallies at San Ysidro, California; Yuma, Arizona; and Eagle Pass, Texas.

For the purpose of arranging transportation, the organization maintains sub-groups on Telegram for drivers and passengers in those three states.

This is a "peaceful gathering," according to the website, open to any "law-abiding, freedom-loving Americans."

The group remarked on Telegram, "We are not issuing a call to guns," in response to a story in Wired that called them a "armed convoy." An appeal to interact with anybody stepping beyond the border. We are here to pray and peacefully exercise our First Amendment rights.

One of the group's stated objectives is to quickly halt illegal immigration and seal the border. The group's strategy for confronting migrants at the border and preventing their entry is unclear. After erecting razor wire at a park along the Rio Grande where migrants often cross, Texas National Guard soldiers and the federal government are at odds.

Those soldiers were "holding the line," according to Chambers, who also announced that his convoy would be traveling around thirty miles distant.

Republican congressman from Texas, Rep. Keith Self, has declared his support for the caravan.

Immigration has been a key topic in this year's presidential election, and tensions surrounding it have been growing. Record numbers of individuals are migrating; according to US authorities, almost 300,000 people attempted to enter the country in December.
