NYC Mayor Eric Adams Calls for Revising Sanctuary Status to Allow Deportation of Migrants Facing Charges

New York City Mayor Eric Adams believes that the city's sanctuary status should be revised to permit migrants facing criminal charges to be handed over to federal immigration authorities for deportation.

Addressing attendees at a community gathering on Monday evening, Adams emphasized the need to adjust the city's policy on cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to better address the issue of migrants who engage in serious criminal activities.

"If someone commits a violent act, we should be able to hand them over to ICE for deportation," stated the Democrat at a meeting in Brooklyn. "At the moment, we lack the necessary authority to proceed."
