Sen. James Lankford attacked Elon Musk on Monday for saying that more illegal aliens might be allowed to cast ballots in US elections as a consequence of the bipartisan national security package that is now passing Congress. The senator, a Republican, said that Musk should be more concerned about the 2 million Tesla vehicles that were just recalled.

"This is a statement that Elon Musk is making on Twitter," CNN's Jake Tapper opened with, referencing the Tesla CEO's tweet. "The so-called "Border Security" bill's ultimate objective is to allow illegal immigrants to vote! It will have the exact opposite effect of border security."

Tapper said, "Now I realize that Elon Musk is not an expert on border security or illegal immigration, but he has an enormous megaphone." "Explain the topic he is discussing here. Is he misguided?"

In response, Lankford said Musk need to "return to initiating the 2 million Teslas that are now undergoing recall." Earlier this month, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) ordered a recall of over 2 million Tesla cars due to tiny letter sizes on warning screens that may increase the risk of an accident. Forbes reported on this issue.

"That is ludicrous; the goal is not to attempt to encourage more illegal immigrants to cast ballots. Voting in any federal election in the United States by someone who is not a citizen is illegal. We are not dealing with it, of course."

Musk has been a vociferous opponent of the Biden administration's approach to the southern border problem, and he has recently taken aim at the aforementioned measure. He has repeatedly republished analyses showing how the law would not only not make things better, but might possibly make them worse.

He has focused on the assertion that Democrats are only attempting to get more support.

Musk said in a since-pinned post, "In the 'bet-you-didn't-know' category, Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas released formal instructions making it clear that: 1. Illegal presence alone is not grounds for deportation." 2. Being a member of a gang, having criminal accusations against you, or both do not guarantee deportation."

He went on, "Basically, to get deported, you have to be a convicted axe killer." This is due to the fact that each deportation results in a lost vote.
