On Sunday, Donald Trump made it apparent that he was not impressed with Ronna McDaniel's leadership of the Republican National Committee, citing a decrease in her performance. "I believe her performance running Michigan for me was excellent. According to NBC News, "I believe she performed OK, initially at the RNC," he said. "At this point, I think there will definitely be some adjustments."

In answer to a query from Maria Bartiromo on Fox News, "How is Ronna McDaniel doing?", Trump provided the evaluation. Trump had remarked in October that McDaniel was doing a "great job" in the position.

According to the Hill, Bartiromo questioned the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination about Democrats surpassing his party in funding. Trump said, "I have a lot of money," and then said, "And people are not looking at the RNC when they receive money." They are desirous of changes. You must realize that I am not associated with the RNC in any way. I am distinct, therefore I don't."

In retrospect, the New York Times reports that McDaniel made a mistake in 2021 when she asked Trump if he would think about running as a third-party candidate in 2024 rather as a Republican.

January 2023 saw McDaniel win a landslide fourth term. Her tenure expires after this year's election, however she has privately said that she would be happy to step down early if the candidate so chose.

As per the Times, the committee's winter meeting in Las Vegas last week included a lot of talk about McDaniel's potential successor as chair, Trump's potential attempts to establish his influence in the leadership, and the potential consequences for the party's financial difficulties.
