Federal Charges Filed Against Former GOP Candidate: Accused of Soliciting to Kill Witnesses Multiple Times

Federal charges have been brought against Solomon Peña, who is accused of planning killings at the homes of local politicians. He is also accused of trying to kill witnesses.

The new charge against Peña came back from a federal grand jury on Tuesday. Multiple counts of soliciting are being brought against the person for reportedly trying to kill witnesses three times. They cover the time period when Peña was being held by the federal government, from June 2023 to February 2024.

Although court papers do not say who they are, both of those witnesses are expected to speak against Peña in his upcoming trial.

A father and son team named Demetrio and Jose Trujillo are accused by the federal government of breaking into the homes of four Democratic politicians. Peña is now facing a long list of charges. Peña lost his Republican race for the New Mexico House of Representatives, and this happened.

The suspects, a father and son, have already admitted to the crimes they are accused of. They could both get life sentences in jail and fines of up to a million dollars per person. Eventually this year, both of them will be given their sentences.

Péña is also charged with having a gun while being a criminal in the new accusation. "Peña faces up to life in prison if he is found guilty," the U.S. Attorney's Office said. This summer, he is likely to be put on trial.
