On Monday, the judge in charge of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's case against Donald Trump extended a gag order against the former president so that he could not say anything about his daughter.

Judge Juan Merchan in New York issued the gag order last week, which means Trump can not talk about jurors, lawyers, or court staff in public, but Bragg is an exception.

The New York Times said that Merchan's move on Monday made the order cover both his family and Bragg's family. He and Bragg are still good people for Trump to criticize in public.

Trump attacked the gag order and brought up the judge's daughter's left-wing political activity last week, which is when Bragg asked for the expansion. He said last week that Loren Merchan is a "rabid Trump hater" who has claimed to have talked about him with her father.

Trump had asked Merchan to step down from the case because his daughter works for the company and he has made decisions in the past regarding the former commander-in-chief, but he did not.

Last year, the Manhattan DA charged Trump with 34 counts of forging business records related to a payment that Trump's lawyer at the time, Michael Cohen, made to Stormy Daniels in 2016. For his part, Trump has said he is not guilty and that the case is part of a larger political witch hunt meant to stop him from running for president again in 2024.
