Sen. Tim Scott: Trump Silent on Running Mate Possibility; VP Pick Expected Soon

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) said that during a recent meeting, former President Donald Trump made no mention of the possibility of serving as his running mate. During a Sunday appearance on NBC News's "Meet the Press," Scott said that he anticipates Trump's vice presidential running partner will be announced within the next sixty days.

"We had no conversations about the VP pick, to be honest with you, to be clear, but we had a lot of conversations about the failures of Joe Biden and the success of Donald Trump," Scott added.

Scott said, "I hope the President will choose a person who helps the country unite and heal," in response to a question about his feelings about being on the vice presidential shortlist. l Although he did not address it, I do anticipate hearing from President Trump on a decision within the next sixty days or so. I did not bring it up, for sure.

"I'm excited that in this nation, a poor kid from South Carolina could rise to the level of being a United States Senator," Scott concluded. It just indicates to me that, for children growing up in poverty today, anything is possible. After listening to this program, remember that everything is possible for the future."

Scott repeatedly sidestepped questions regarding Trump's unwillingness to commit to accepting the results of the 2024 election, regardless of the victor.

Here are some unambiguous facts. According to President Trump, a fair election is what he expects. He anticipates it being truthful. And he anticipates success. The presidential candidate should anticipate it, and I do too. The American people, in all honesty, concur with him. I am not going to make this a problem because it is not one," Scott said.

At one point, Scott replied, "I'm not going to answer your hypothetical question when in fact I believe the American people are speaking today on the results of the election."

Scott was one of a select group of Republicans who met over the weekend at Mar-a-Lago for a private gathering with well-known GOP officials and funders. Many people saw the event as a chance to compete for Trump's running partner in the 2024 race.

The guest lists featured a number of people who are allegedly on that list, such as Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Sen. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance (R), South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R), Gov. Doug Burgum (R-N.D.), and House GOP conference chair Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.).

CNN reports that at the ceremony, Trump summoned a few people on his vice presidential shortlist—Noem not included, since she left early—to the stage. Noem has come under fire when a book tale about her dog's death went viral.
