In relation to a ploy by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in which migrants from the southern border were transferred to luxurious Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, a Texas sheriff suggested charges on Monday.

A full criminal case surrounding the event from September 2022, when 49 migrants were flown to Martha's Vineyard, was formally filed with the Bexar County District Attorney's Office, according to a Monday announcement from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

"Several reports, including misdemeanour and criminal charges, were submitted along with the accusation of unlawful restraint. According to the office of Democratic Sheriff Javier Salazar, "the DA's office is now reviewing the matter.

Michael Wildes, an immigration attorney and former federal prosecutor, applauded the choice while speaking on NewsNation's Dan Abrams Live, saying that DeSantis "had no legal power as a governor" to move the migrants to another state.

If you take individuals and give them the sense that they're going to find job, which is what was discovered, and then carry them across the United States carelessly, of course charges might be brought, he added. "Not only the governor, but any of his messengers," the governor commanded.

Mark Bederow, a former Manhattan assistant district attorney, disapproved of the choice to press charges in connection with DeSantis' prank.

Founder of Mediaite and host of NewsNation Dan Abrams asked Bederow if a Texas municipality could "file charges against the governor of Florida," and Bederow responded, "Can they? Maybe. ought should they? Perhaps not.

Bederow asserted that the federal government need to investigate this. "However, this smells like politics."

After he assisted in the flight of 49 migrants to Martha's Vineyard in September 2022, DeSantis came under fire from leftists and Republican lawmakers who lean liberal, including former Trump senior advisor Jared Kushner.

In such situation, DeSantis stated, "We are not a sanctuary state, and it's better to be able to move to a sanctuary jurisdiction, and yes, we would assist organize that transit for you to be able to go to greener pastures." "The burdens should be distributed across all American communities. A small number of red states shouldn't bear the full burden.
