Allegations of Betrayal: Ukrainian Colonels Linked to Russian Plot against Zelensky

There are allegations against two of Volodymyr Zelensky's own colonels that they participated in a Russian plan to kill him. There have been other reported assassination plots in the past, but the BBC points out that this one is unique since military men are involved. According to the New York Times, they had been enlisted before the conflict started and were purportedly working with Russia's FSB, the KGB's successor. Within the Ukrainian service that was in charge of protecting high-ranking officials, there were colonels.

They face charges, among other things, of attempting to enlist Zelensky's bodyguards as potential recruits for the purpose of kidnapping and killing them. According to CNN, one of the charges against them is planning a terrorist attack, and the other is treason. The chief of military intelligence, Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, and Vasyl Maliuk, the head of Ukraine's domestic intelligence service, were two other prominent targets.
