In the days following what Donald Trump has hinted will be a momentous announcement, former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama are hosting back-to-back democracy summits.

The former president will officially announce his run for president in 2024, according to Trump advisor Jason Miller. Some Republicans have been urging Trump to delay making this declaration. Then-Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Republican Herschel Walker will face off in the Georgia runoff election, according to Miller, who at one point even counseled Trump to wait.

The timing of Bush and Obama’s talks, both of which will address “growing challenges from authoritarianism and disinformation — and how to battle them abroad and at home,” according to the site, was not coordinated, according to organizers, Axios reported on Saturday.

On November 16, Bush will have his conference in Dallas, while on November 17, Obama will hold his conference in New York. At his conference, Bush will speak with Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine. The George W. Bush Institute’s The Struggle for Freedom series includes the interview. Tsai Ing-wen, the president of Taiwan, will also participate via a recorded speech.

According to the Obama Foundation, Obama’s event would concentrate on “the largest issues democratic institutions face today.”

Following the midterm elections, David J. Kramer, executive director of the Bush Institute, told Axios that he finds it “terrific” that the two former presidents will discuss related subjects in the same week.

Just prior to the Bush and Obama conferences on Tuesday, November 15, Trump declared that he will be making a “very major announcement.”

Trump declared, “We were a great nation two years ago, and we will be a great nation again. I’ll be making a significant announcement at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach on Tuesday, November 15. Florida.”
