Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), was demanded to quit by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who is running to succeed Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. McCarthy described Mayorkas as a danger to national security. McCarthy warned that House Republicans would consider putting Mayorkas on trial for impeachment if he resisted.
At a press conference along the border between the United States and Mexico, McCarthy made the announcement. He noted that under Mayorkas’s direction, the United States had experienced “the greatest wave of illegal immigration in recorded history, with an estimated 5.5 million border encounters since Biden took office in February 2021.”
Secretary Mayorkas’ negligence may leave our nation permanently damaged, McCarthy warned. “Due to this, I’m urging the Secretary to step down now. He must leave that position immediately.
McCarthy added, “If Secretary Mayorkas does not quit, House Republicans will look into every order, action, and failure to see if we can launch [an] impeachment investigation.
In order to prevent House Democrats from avoiding the area, McCarthy said that House Republicans will pursue hearings into Mayorkas’s behavior as DHS chief at the southern border.
So that the Democrats can no longer escape from the situation they have caused, McCarthy stated, “We will hold our hearings at the border.”
The Biden administration’s decision to not appeal a federal court decision that ends Title 42 — the public health authority that has kept a lid on record-breaking illegal immigration levels since 2020 — has, according to McCarthy, “empowered cartels, human traffickers, and terrorist organizations all over the world” and most recently ensured that the United States will experience a “tsunami” of illegal immigration.
“Let me be clear: those responsible for this catastrophe will face consequences. James Comert, the incoming chair of the Oversight and Judiciary Committee, and I spoke once more today, McCarthy stated.
McCarthy stated, “They have my full backing to look into the breakdown of our border and the nationwide suspension of [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] enforcement.
With Mayorkas in charge, Biden’s DHS has unleashed about 1.4 million border crossers and illegal aliens into American neighborhoods since he assumed office. An extensive parole program that was previously used by the Obama administration has been used to carry out this Catch and Release operation.
