Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, was called out by Dr. Anthony Fauci after the billionaire said that Fauci should be "prosecuted" for how he handled the COVID-19 epidemic.

During a Saturday interview on CNN, Fauci responded to an Elon Musk tweet from December, calling calls for his prosecution "insanity." Acosta pointed to the tweet that said, "My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci," and he enquired as to Fauci's reaction.

"Jim, there's nothing you can do about that madness. Why would you prosecute me? What are they discussing? I really wish I could understand what they're talking about. They seem to be simply going off the deep end, "said Fauci.

Fauci continued by claiming that because of the harsh criticism he has received, he and his family have received death threats.

"I mean, [my family] doesn't enjoy that I constantly receive death threats. Someone somewhere thinks they want to harm me and/or my family every time someone gets up and spews some gibberish that is misinformation, deception, and blatant lies, "said Fauci.

That portion of it, he continued, "is extremely unfortunate. "The remainder of what they are saying is pure lunacy. But when people take it seriously and turn on you and your family, it does have a detrimental impact."

Fauci's detractors contend that during the early stages of the pandemic, he misled People regarding masks and vaccinations by making frequent U-turns.

The COVID-19 lab leak scenario, which Fauci and a large portion of the media had discounted as a conspiracy theory, has also been accused of being minimized by Republicans on Capitol Hill. A number of U.S. agencies are now supporting that theory as the most plausible one to explain the origins of COVID-19.
