After the minority leader's return from the hospital on Monday night, former president Donald Trump attacked McConnell at a rally in Iowa.

McConnell, 81, stumbled and fell at a dinner in Washington, D.C. last week, allegedly sustaining a concussion. Before going back home, he will go to a rehabilitation center for physical therapy.

Speaking in Davenport, Trump expressed optimism that the House of Representatives will probe President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden over the latter's financial practices. In addition, he called it "a beautiful thing" that it took House Republicans 15 votes to eventually elect Kevin McCarthy speaker.

Trump addressed the crowd and said, "That was a beautiful event that happened, and there's great unity in Congress," before turning his attention to the Senate minority leader.

He continued, "We do have to do something about Mitch McConnell," as the audience cheered. He is a catastrophe. He gathers his ten men, and they grant Biden their demands. Something is occurring. It is not logical.

Trump was referring to the 60-vote requirement in the Senate, where enough Republicans have occasionally joined the Democratic majority to support items Biden wanted passed, such the CHIPS and Science Act and the bipartisan infrastructure agreement. In the Senate, Democrats presently control 51 seats.

Nobody can comprehend it, Trump continued. We must immediately remove him. He is a really serious issue. He's a significant problem, but I hope he's feeling okay in the interim.

When asked if he plans to run for reelection in 2026, McConnell has not responded.
