Hours before his arraignment, Republican senator from Mississippi Cindy Hyde-Smith endorsed former president Donald Trump for the 2024 election. According to her statement, Hyde-Smith charged Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on Monday night with working on behalf of George Soros, who gave generously to a group that supported Bragg. She also referred to Trump's hush money indictment as a "political stunt" that has nothing to do with justice.

According to Hyde-Smith, "I think the whole thing will backfire on the prosecutor and Democrats." The senator emphasized Trump's positions on the country's border, the economy, taxes, and energy independence, claiming that they have improved "America." She continued, "I favor a return to those policies and to President Trump's successful leadership."

"Mississippians can trust on President Trump to continue focusing on our objectives," she added. "He has been attentive to Mississippi's concerns and has made many trips here with officials of his Administration. "As a result, I support Donald J. Trump for reelection to the presidency and will strive to help him secure the Republican nomination for president in 2024.

I enjoin my fellow Republicans in Mississippi and across the nation to join me in backing President Trump and advocating for him.

According to The Hill, Senator Hyde-Smith is the sixth senator to support Trump in his campaign, joining Republicans Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma, Eric Schmitt of Montana, and J.D. Vance of Ohio.
