The crowning of King Charles on May 6 will draw delegations from all across the world, but one significant head of state might not be there.
Despite the fact that they stated that his calendar for May has not yet been set in stone, sources familiar with the discussions told The Daily Telegraph that President Joe Biden "is not expected" to attend the ceremony owing to scheduling issues and is planned to send a delegation in his place.
The magazine was informed by insiders close to Biden that his connection with King Charles is still "solid" in spite of this.
According to The Telegraph, the first lady Dr. Jill Biden is apparently being considered to go in his place because he will probably send a prominent representative.
The insider claimed that "some efforts may still be in progress to see whether Biden can be persuaded to attend to the Coronation." Another source claimed that he was still "technically in play" and that his intentions were "not locked and loaded."
This comes after a White House source told TIME that despite attending the late Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September, the king's coronation "does not feel like an occasion Joe Biden will attend."
In order to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday peace treaty, which was partly brokered by the U.S., Biden is to travel to Ireland this month for a five-day stay.
