WH Looking Into Creating Press Briefing Room For TikTok Biden Influencers

Axios reported on Sunday that Joe Biden is recruiting a young "influencer army" to help him win over the "young voters who are crucial to Democrats' success in elections." The White House may soon be home to a special briefing room just for the administration's social media celebrities.

Apparently, the White House has teamed up with "hundreds" of content creators who are willing to throw their online influence behind Biden's campaign. These creators include Harry Sisson, a 20-year-old NYU news TikToker, Vivian Tu, a TikToker who specializes in finance, and Heather Cox Richardson, a professor at Boston College who uses Twitter and Substack.

Axios reports that four White House workers make up the president's "digital strategy team," whose only responsibility is to recruit influencers and social media content creators with an eye toward reaching "young and suburban voters" and people who have "largely tuned out politics."

There are more people in this age group than just those under 29 who supposedly voted for Joe Biden over Donald Trump by a 26 point margin and for the Democrats over the Republicans by a 28 point margin in the midterm elections. "moms who use different platforms to get information, climate activists, and people whose main way of getting information is digital," White House deputy chief of staff Jen O'Malley Dillon told Axios.

The administration is trying to connect with local leaders ahead of the campaign so that they can draw interested voters to campaign events. If and when Biden makes the announcement that he will seek reelection in 2024, he will no longer be the only Democrat in the race.

Some believe White House staffers should be concerned about their candidate's lack of support among party faithful, despite the fact that the media establishment has largely written lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and author Marianne Williamson off as unserious candidates for their opposition to some of Washington's most powerful lobbies. A majority of young Democrats, 54%, disapprove of the president's handling of the economy, contributing to a dismal 38% approval rating in a recent AP poll.

While the Biden administration is actively trying to hire TikTok employees, it is also imposing new regulations on the service. Last month, Biden ordered a Chinese internet company called ByteDance to sell its share in the popular platform TikTok or face a ban, thus ending the use of TikTok on government computers.

There are more than 100 million people in the United States who use TikTok, and among them are millions of content creators (and voters) who would be negatively affected by a nationwide ban on the app.
