Don Lemon, a CNN anchor, claims that CNN has dismissed him. "I am stunned," Lemon said in a statement on Twitter on Monday, claiming that his agency had told him of Chris Licht's decision to fire him as CNN president.

In a note to CNN employees, Licht said that "CNN and Don have parted ways." Don will always remain a part of the CNN family, and we appreciate all he has done for us these last 17 years, Licht said. "We wish him well and will support him in his endeavors in the future."

In a different statement released on Monday, the network disagreed with Lemon's interpretation of the events leading up to his departure.

The statement Don Lemon made on what happened this morning was false, according to the network. He was given the chance to meet with management, but he chose to tweet a statement instead.  CNN hired Lemon in 2006.

Only a few minutes earlier, Fox News said that it and the nation's top-rated cable news personality, Tucker Carlson, had "agreed to part ways." That announcement preceded the news of Lemon's departure from the cable news network. Two prominent departures from the two top news stations were announced back-to-back with the announcements.

On CNN+, the company's streaming service that was discontinued after only one month of existence, Lemon was chosen to headline a self-titled program. Then he was sent to "CNN This Morning," a morning program alongside Kaitlin Collins and Poppy Harlow.

He has had a sometimes turbulent tenure at CNN, and earlier this year after making remarks regarding the ages of women, he was briefly taken off the air.

Speaking on the former governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley's suggestion that politicians over 75 take a competence test, Lemon stated, "Nikki Haley isn't in her prime, sorry. When a woman is seen as being in her prime, which is in her 20s, 30s, and maybe 40s. After obtaining proper training, Lemon rejoined the network.
