According to KTVU Fox 2, a Home Depot employee was shot and murdered on Tuesday while attempting to thwart an alleged theft at the Pleasanton, California, store.
According to KTVU Fox 2, the victim, Blake Mohs, 26, worked as a loss prevention employee at the California retail site. According to the publication, he was characterised by friends as a Boy Scout leader who was engaged to be married.
After getting a call about a guy bleeding inside the Home Depot store, Pleasanton police assisted Mohs. Mohs was taken to a neighbouring hospital, where he later passed away from his wounds, according to authorities, ABC 7 News said.
According to witnesses cited by police, Mohs approached a female suspect who reportedly resisted and shot him. According to ABC 7 News, the suspect, 32-year-old Benicia Knapps, reportedly escaped to a getaway car being driven by suspect David Guillory while Knapp's toddler was inside. Deputies from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office managed to capture both individuals, and a firearm was found at a nearby crossroads.
According to KTVU, Knapps was reportedly attempting to take an electrical device, presumably a charger, and was "determined to exit without paying," according to Pleasanton police Lt. Erik Silacci. As he often reported thefts to the department, Mohs was well-known to Pleasanton police, according to Silacci. The victim was a "valuable, valuable" contributor to the community, said Silacci.
Home Depot released a statement that said, "We're heartbroken over this senseless tragedy," according to ABC 7. Blake was a coworker and friend of ours, and we send our condolences to his loved ones and family.
