Talk show personality Mark Levin claimed that automakers were "attacking" conservative talk shows by removing AM radio from cars. Levin delivered his remarks on The Mark Levin Show on Friday, and Media Matters then disseminated them.
The first topic of Levin's chat was the attempt to encourage more people to purchase electric vehicles. Due to electrical interference with the vehicles' operational systems, AM radios are not produced in electric vehicles or even some hybrid variants. This interference could result in "annoying buzzing noises and faded signals," according to Axios.
Levin, though, thinks that this most recent change is indicative of something more evil and many believe he's justified to feel that way.
"The car is necessary for liberty. The car is all about mobility. Having a car allows you to go wherever you want, whenever you want. It's liberation. The automobile is all about that. It's all about freedom," said Levin. "It's essential in every way. Therefore, having power over your car means having control over your freedom.
Levin continued to explain about the campaign to encourage more Americans to purchase electric cars, but he also pointed out that charging an electric car is not as simple as plugging in a radio.
"Let's have a brief discussion about radios. Ford is the most recent automaker to declare that the AM platform would not be used in any future automotive manufacturing. BMW stated as much. It has been said by others because it causes some sort of interference. The way to attack conservative talk radio has finally been figured out, according to Levin.
"Let me be the first to say it right at the manufacturer level, instead of going after us through the FCC, instead of going after us through legislation, instead of going after us through boycotting advertisers and all the rest - just don't make AM stations available in automobiles anymore, because not all, but most conservative talk shows are on the AM band," he continued.
Levin said it was a means of keeping the general public from receiving the news they desire.
"This idea that you're suddenly going to remove the AM band from cars is targeted at people like me to prevent people like you from just turning on your radio as you drive in your own local area or general area and listening to the station," the speaker said. That's the whole point of that," Levin added.
"Oh no, Mark, no. You are unable to demonstrate that. I don't need to provide any evidence, stated Levin. "I've been here a while enough. It all made sense to me. The curb is far away from where we are. They have carried out precisely that. They are definitely acting in that manner.
