According to a new book, Kate Middleton considered the Windsor walkabout she and Prince William had with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following Queen Elizabeth's passing last year to be "one of the hardest things" she has ever done.
On September 10, two days after the Queen passed away at the age of 96, the 41-year-old Princess of Wales and her husband made history by posing for photos with Harry and Meghan outside Windsor Castle.
However, according to royal writer Robert Jobson in his latest book, "Our King," reports of a potential reconciliation between the two couples—who have been estranged since Harry and Meghan left for America in 2020—were mostly overstated.
According to an excerpt from Jobson received by the Daily Mail, "Catherine later admitted to a senior royal that, such was the ill feeling between the two couples, the joint walkabout was one of the hardest things she'd ever had to do."
According to Jobson's book, Prince William, 40, suggested the combined expedition in an effort to portray a united front following the death of the long-reigning Queen. However, any rekindled connection eventually collapsed after the high-profile funeral rituals.
A few months later, in Netflix's "Harry & Meghan" documentary series, Prince Harry made fun of his brother and sister-in-law.
Harry, 38, remarked in reference to the other members in the royal family that it can be tempting or urge to marry someone who would "fit the mold" rather than someone you may be "destined to be with."
Additionally, Markle described her uneasy first encounter with William and Kate and implied that the prim and proper couple turned down her friendly advances. Then, in January, Harry's shocking autobiography "Spare" debuted and revealed much more information about the couple's troubled marriage.
Harry claimed that William and Kate "howled with laughter" at his infamous Nazi outfit and that Meghan was not treated well by the then-Duchess of Cambridge. The redheaded royal remembered how Kate had resisted the idea of gifting Meghan her lip gloss during a tough situation.
Even though there is clearly animosity between the couples, May 6 will see King Charles' coronation, and viewers may see yet another reconciliation. Plans for Harry and Meghan to fly from California to London for the historic occasion are apparently "being finalized" after months of back and forth.
