More than 100 people demonstrated in favour of the resignation of the sheriff, Kevin Clardy, and other county officials on Monday morning outside the McCurtain County Sheriff's Office.

during the recording of unsettling remarks made during a county commission meeting in early March, both the mayor of Idabel and the governor of Oklahoma, Kevin Stitt, are asking for the resignations of the two officials.

The video in issue was taken by a reporter for the McCurtain Gazette-News, and it features those involved discussing their intentions to assassinate two Gazette reporters, Chris and Bruce Willingham, during a commission meeting on March 6.

The publication said that Clardy, District 2 Commissioner Mark Jennings, investigator Alicia Manning, and prison administrator Larry Hendrix could be heard mocking a case involving a lady who perished in a fire among other things.

The Gazette released a transcript of the tape in which Jennings also made remarks about the lynching of Black people. According to the newspaper, Jennings, Manning, and Clardy were overheard discussing the prospect of hiring kill men.

Clardy, Jennings, Manning, and Hendrix, according to Stitt, need to step down right now. The governor has also requested that the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation investigate the audiotapes of the remarks.

According to KSWO, Stitt expressed his shock and disheartenment upon learning of the deplorable remarks made by McCurtain County authorities. Such divisive language has no place in Oklahoma, particularly when it comes from individuals who hold positions of authority and are tasked with representing the community. I won't watch helplessly while this happens.
