In response to a viral video that appears to show a driver attempting to sexually attack a female rider, Uber says it is working with the police. The driver in the backseat of the car looks to be unconscious in the brief clip where a man confronts him.
The ride-share company responded to the video on Tuesday (April 11). It was posted by Inane Reality Leaks and has received over 8,000 retweets in addition to over 16.8 million views. It's unclear exactly when the incident happened, though.
The driver, who was wearing a black shirt and light-colored slacks, was shown in the video sitting in the backseat with his pants down when a man approached the vehicle and started filming with a flash.
The driver jumped out of the backseat, pulled his pants up, and sat in the front seat as soon as he saw the guy filming. The driver is constantly asked, "What are you doing?" by the person filming. A blond-haired woman leaned sideways on the seat was captured on a camera pan. On the driver's door of the blue car, a huge, white Uber sign was visible.
The individual filming was able to capture the license plate number even though the motorist pulled over with the female passenger. Unknown as to which nation the incident occurred in, the driver's steering wheel was on the right, which is rare for Americans.
Although the driver was allegedly banned by Uber Support, no more information is known about him. Also unknown at this moment is whether or not the authorities intend to press charges. The woman's identity is still a mystery.
