According to an audio recording acquired by Politico, Obama discussed the notion with county officials on Thursday as New York City tries to secure housing for the thousands of more asylum seekers scheduled to come once the federal border regulation Title 42 expires.
As the city has already supplied lodging, food, and other amenities to nearly 65,000 asylum seekers over the previous year, Adams said in the call that his administration needed assistance from neighbouring counties.
Politico also states that Adams did not completely rule out the request from Gil Piaquadio, the supervisor of Newburgh, that the mayor take into consideration the unoccupied housing at SUNY New Paltz as well as the defunct Downstate Correctional Facility in adjacent Fishkill, Dutchess County.
Adams, a Democrat, said that "nothing is off the table." "We're willing to consider alternate places if anybody has any. Nothing is off the table at all. We'll investigate both of the places you suggested.

This week, Adams said that he planned to move 300 recent immigrants to Orange and Rockland counties.
