Prominent Liberal Morning DJ Blasts Republican Lt Governor For Not Supporting Reparations

Mark Robinson, the lieutenant governor of North Carolina, came under fire from Charlamagne-Tha-God, who dubbed him "Donkey of the Day" for claiming that Black Americans should pay reparations "if anybody."

On the Tuesday episode of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne called the lieutenant governor and 2024 candidate for governor, Robinson, the "Donkey of the Day" due to his previous remarks. He also claimed that if Robinson were to win, it wouldn't matter whether North Carolina was a red or blue state because "it wouldn't be a Black state."

The topic of reparations is a hot topic right now, according to Charlamagne. "I'm a person who thinks pessimism never prevails in any conflict. Because we all agree that the slave trade was one of this country's greatest sins and that atonement in the form of reparations is required, I speak optimistically even though I know this country will never ever pay Black people what they owe.

Mark might make history by becoming the first Black governor of North Carolina, a state with a population that is little more than 21% Black and almost 67% White. However, because he is a Republican, he doesn't really care about any Black votes. Okay? 89% White people make up the Republican Party in North Carolina. On October 29, 2022, there were around 7.4 million registered voters in North Carolina, according to some statistics I was reading at...Therefore, Mark probably thinks, "I'm a Republican." I only need these White people," Added Charlamagne.

He showed a recording of Robinson speaking on the subject of reparations at the North Carolina Republican Party State Convention in 2021.

"Some individuals in our nation have been discussing reparations. They demanded restitution. You owe nothing to anybody for your servitude. You are the one who owes, if you're going to be honest about it. Because someone in those fields took stripes for you, you are the one who is responsible. After those fields and slavery were abolished, someone had to guide you through Jim Crow. For you, someone died in battle. Robinson at the time stated.

"...You owe no one anything. At the conclusion of the video, Robinson reaffirmed, "If anybody owes—it's you.

Once again, the camera cut to Charlamagne's response.

It makes no difference whether North Carolina is a red or blue state. You can be sure it won't be a Black state if Mark Robinson wins the governorship, he said. 'All right? All the topics he spoke, such as the individuals who battled for civil rights, the brothers' and sisters' civil rights marches, and those who endured "Bloody Sunday's" torment for us to get even a fraction of freedom. They contribute to the debt we owe.

"Yes, we owe them, but not to the extent that this nation owes us. And we gave them what they fought for—what so many of them had come to want—in return. That's what reparations are. Okay? When your parents used to tell you they were beating us up for our own good, Mark Robinson telling Black folks we deserve reparations is like that," Charlamagne said.
