Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, a Republican, accused the FBI on Friday of political prejudice in how it handled an inquiry into financial transactions involving President Joe Biden's family.
Comer, the head of the House Oversight Committee, and Sen. Charles Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, sent a letter to the FBI on Wednesday demanding that it turn over information about an alleged criminal scheme involving a foreign national and then-Vice President Biden. For FD-1023 papers made in June 2020 that include Biden, the House Oversight Committee served a subpoena on FBI Director Christopher Wray on Wednesday.
"These people know the Bidens are corrupt, but their hatred for Donald Trump far outweighs anything that would matter with respect to national security and that would matter with respect to determining whether or not Joe Biden is compromised because of all the money he has taken from our adversaries around the world," Comer said in an interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo. They despise Donald Trump, therefore our intelligence community's first priority was to stop him and to defend the Bidens or anybody else who was doing their hardest to stop him.
The intelligence community has repeatedly misled Chuck Grassley about whether or not they were looking into specific matters pertaining to the Biden family, according to Comer. "The reason Chuck Grassley is so upset over this document is because he has been investigating this from day one — you know, he has been on this several years, I have been on it for a little over 100 days, he has been on it for several years," Comer said.
Comer said in a statement issued by the House Oversight Committee on April 17 that investigators had discovered six additional Biden family members engaged in what he termed "shady" activities that were allegedly connected to Hunter Biden.
Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina said on Thursday that Comer "won't wait long" to share his findings with the American people and would act swiftly to examine whether the FBI followed up on the information in the subpoenaed document.
"Joe Biden and Chuck Grassley worked together in the US Senate for many years. He has been close friends with Joe Biden for at than 40 years, and Comer says that he is determined to expose governmental wrongdoing involving this family. He is so certain that there is public corruption, and he is angry at the intelligence community for continuing to mislead him. They have repeatedly lied.
"We know this document exists, we want the document, and we want to know what they did to verify the document," Comer said.
