Megan Simpkins, a senior at a high school in California, made an emotional speech in which she criticized her institution for letting a student who was born male use the women's restroom, referring to a possible fight.
Following the release of a viral video depicting a transgender student assaulting a female student on campus, Martin Luther King High School in Riverside, California, made national headlines. Parents allegedly informed Fox 11 that the transgender kid had a history of "erratic and uncomfortable behaviour" and has access to the locker rooms and facilities for females. Additionally, according to Riverside Police, this was not the first altercation this transgender student had. At a recent school board meeting, many expressed their outrage that such a series of events was permitted to occur in the first place.
At a Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) board meeting, the 18-year-old high school student spoke and warned about the problem of "biological men claiming they are women and in turn truly believing that they are entitled to use women's spaces."
"A transgender lady who is really a biological guy had an encounter with a young woman at MLK High School," she added. "There was an incident inside our district that happened lately. The fact that this guy is and has been utilizing the women's toilet and locker room was harmful to this, while it was upsetting when I first saw the video on social media.
Simpkins also attacked the transgender movement's philosophy.
The first issue she raised was why, by permitting mentally unstable males to utilize women's places, we were endorsing this boy's mental instability and endangering the safety of women.
Simpkins was astounded by the lack of consultation with women and "true girls" like herself, who "are female down to our DNA," over alterations to their private places.
She questioned, "Why don't we ever get to decide whether or not we are OK with this. "The reality is, most of us are not, and yet nothing has been done to ensure these women's protection. It all begins with you, I'll say as my closing statement. You are responsible for us women's safety. Thank you and please do something about it."
In a statement made public by the RUSD at the end of April, it was noted that "a video depicting an altercation involving students at Martin Luther King High School has been widely circulated on social media this week" and that "Riverside Unified School District administration has given this matter its full attention and is addressing it expeditiously."
A transgender student who must remain nameless allegedly left the institution.
The statement said, "Since the event, District personnel has been working to ensure that the safety and rights of all kids are recognized and swiftly addressed. We can confirm that the affected kid won't be attending King High School anymore.
