KJP Speaks About Texas Killings, Manhunt But Ignores Shooter Was Illegal Border Crosser

For almost a minute of Monday's briefing, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre spoke about a shooting in Cleveland, Texas, without ever noting that the perpetrator is likely an illegal immigrant.

On Friday, Francisco Oropesa Perez-Torres, 38, a Mexican national, reportedly killed five people in a "execution style" shooting, including an 8-year-old. On Monday, ICE verified to the Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF) that the alleged shooter was the subject of an immigration judge's removal order dating back to March 16, 2009.

The gunman used an AR-15-style rifle, Jean-Pierre said, adding that Congress should outlaw these "weapons of war."

There were five victims, she claimed, and the killer was "armed with a powerful AR-15 style rifle." We ask that people be vigilant and listen to law police as they continue their search for the alleged attacker. As local authorities work to respond to this tragedy and track down the suspect, federal authorities have been providing assistance and support.

She said President Joe Biden was informed of the incident on Saturday morning and is "praying" for the victims and the community. The spokesperson went on to say that removing "weapons of war" is more urgent than praying for peace.

Getting these weapons of war off the streets is totally within our reach. She also noted that polls show widespread public support for sensible steps to curb gun violence among both gun owners and non-owners alike. The president is still convinced that lawmakers in Washington need to take swift action. You can still save lives and stop the next mass massacre.

ICE informed the DCNF that Perez-Torres unlawfully reentered the country at an unspecified date and time after being deported by an immigration court. In September 2009, January 2012, and July 2016, ICE arrested and deported him. In addition, he went to prison in January 2012 for drunk driving.

A manhunt is underway as authorities try to locate the criminal.
