Last week, while onlookers cheered him on, a man from Northern California died after being hit by a car while assisting a family of ducks through a major crossroads, according to witnesses.
Approximately 22 miles northeast of Sacramento, in the city of Rocklin, California, the tragedy took place on Thursday night. According to Rocklin Police, the man had parked his car and was "reportedly trying to help some ducklings that were in the intersection."
Then, according to authorities, a 17-year-old vehicle struck the man who was in the road. While emergency personnel were on the site to help, the man passed away, according to authorities.
The man was assisting the ducks in avoiding traffic, according to William Wimsatt, a 12-year-old youngster who saw the wonderful deeds and informed KCRA 3. "He got out of the car and was shooing the ducks and everyone was clapping because he was being really nice," Wimsatt said to KCRA 3.
Police say the motorist is cooperating with them as they are investigating the incident, but no one has been taken into custody. The intersection was closed following the collision until around 2 a.m. local time on Friday.
Wimsatt claimed that when the man assisted the ducks in front of their car, he was photographed.
"He helped them get up over the curb because all the little baby duckies were having trouble, and then he walked in front of our car," Wimsatt told KCRA 3, according to the incident. Despite the intersection having a green signal, according to him, no automobiles passed through, and the locals cheered when the ducks successfully crossed the street.
Wimsatt recalled the last seconds before the car struck the man: "My mum rolled down the window and yelled, 'excellent job, excellent job,' and I said, 'Good job,' to him as well. The automobile, according to Wimsatt, seemed to arrive out of nowhere.
According to The New York Post, Wimsatt's mother stepped out of her car to console the man's children who were in his car at the time of the collision. The crossroads was transformed into a temporary monument, complete with flowers and inflatable ducks.
