Following the arrest of the guardian of four imprisoned minors who had come to the police station to pick them up, a vehicle theft case in Maryland took an unexpected turn. According to KOMO, on May 16, when officers conducted a check on two Hyundais that were parked in a business lot in Waldorf, they discovered that the vehicles were stolen.
Police said that when they attempted to make contact, the cars fled and came to a stop at a nearby park and ride. The suspects allegedly sought to hide after getting out of the automobiles, but were discovered and apprehended. Deshaun Deamonte Whitaker, 18, and Vincent Lee Alston, 21, were taken to the police station together with four young people.
Theft and improper use of a vehicle were among the allegations brought against Whitaker and Alston. Alston is still being held without bond while Whitaker was freed after posting a $2,000 bond. The allegations against the minors were identical, but things took a strange turn when their guardian and two other ladies arrived at the station to pick them up. Cops found that the car that had picked them up was also stolen after that trio departed the station with the kids on foot.
Following their arrest, Carlisa Monnae Blakeney, Mahkiyh McQuinn-Woodly, all 18 years old, and a little girl were charged with stealing, giving a fake identity, and using a car without permission, among other offences. Which lady was the youngsters' guardian is unknown. Additionally issued since then were Blakeney and Woodly. According to Southern Maryland News, all four adults must appear in court again on July 7. The third stolen vehicle, a Hyundai, was also driven away from the police station, but according to KOMO, it was found after almost colliding with a police officer.
According to police, Anthony Matthew Stewart, 19, was inside that car and was apprehended after attempting to escape on foot, according to KOA. Charges against Stewart include first- and second-degree assault, larceny, illegal use of a vehicle, and giving a fake name. He is still being held, either without bond or on a $25,000 bond, according to Southern Maryland News, and his next court date is scheduled for June 16.
Three young people who are now facing their own accusations, including theft and illegal use of a vehicle, were also in the automobile. A 16-year-old with outstanding warrants for his arrest and a 13-year-old who had been reported missing in another county were among the younger arrestees. (Apparently, Hyundais are becoming a common target for theft.)
