During an interview with his main Republic primary rival on Wednesday, his former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany appeared to take a subtle dig at her former boss.

Fox News guest-hosting Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida who is currently trailing former President Donald Trump in the polls, was the subject of an interview with McEnany tonight.

McEnany, who Trump last month referred to as "milktoast" in one of the funniest misspellings ever, lamented the "groupthink" response to the pandemic when she worked for him, saying: "You mentioned Covid there. And I still recall this incident clearly. Dr. Anthony Fauci and I were in the Situation Room together in the Oval Office. The fact that all 323 million of us had finite lives made you feel as though yours and everyone else's were as well.

I then travel to Florida, though. You and I met on a tarmac. Additionally, you made some fairly confident claims about opening the state. It was such a contrast to the kind of groupthink I was hearing in Washington that I was a little taken aback. But your Covid response earned you the wrath of the left. Right there, someone is attacking you right now. Covid received a range of responses. Why is yours the correct answer?

We chose to defy Fauci, the medical establishment, the media, the left, and some Republicans and say, "You know what? In Florida, everyone has a right to employment, DeSantis said. The right of businesses to be open. To attend school is a right for children.

Trump has come under fire from DeSantis several times for how he handled the pandemic.

"If you had been in like, the Florida panhandle in May or June 2020, it was like Covid didn't even exist," boasted the governor.

"That's true," McEnany said before praising Covid for his response.

There is no question about that, she remarked. I frequently travelled to Florida on the weekends. People are unaware of that. When I finally left the swamp and arrived in Florida, I felt quite happy. Everything was open, so I went to restaurants and drove on the highways.
