On Wednesday, Mark Green, R-Tennessee, chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, claimed that it is possible that China is sending military troops into the United States over the southern border.

At a news conference announcing a probe against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Green said that the Chinese Communist Party was responsible for the release of "Chinese Nationals, many of whom are military-aged males" who had crossed the southern border.

Green said, "We have no clue who these guys are, and it's highly probable, using Russia's template of sending military troops into Ukraine, China is doing the same in the United States."

Green said the information came from the sector head of the Border Patrol and that he would receive a secret briefing on the topic soon.

On Wednesday, the House Committee on Homeland Security published a first report on the border, which noted a dramatic increase in the number of Chinese people apprehended there.

As of April 2023, the total number of Chinese migrants encountered along the southern border was close to 10,000, according to the most recent official data. In comparison, during the previous fiscal year (October 2021 - September 2022), border agents encountered less than 2,200 Chinese migrants.
