According to a recent survey by The Economist and YouGov, Ron DeSantis will need to address his issues with female voters if he wants to unseat Donald Trump as the front-runner in the 2024 Republican presidential primary. The survey results indicate that DeSantis is weaker among female voters than with males. This suggests that he may need to do more to connect with women voters, perhaps by emphasizing his policies and positions on issues important to them. It will be interesting to see how his campaign evolves as he seeks to bolster his standing among female voters.

When it comes to male voters, DeSantis trails Trump by only 22 percentage points -- 48% to 26%. However, compared to Trump, DeSantis is performing significantly worse. Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley and US Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina are both distant third-placers, earning just 4% each.

In this poll, only 17% of Republican women support DeSantis, while 54% support Trump. Mike Pence, the former vice president, is in third place among female voters with 6% of the vote. Overall, Trump leads the Florida Governor by a margin of 51% to 21%.

"Trump remains the top pick among Republican-leaning independents and registered voters who are Republicans. All other announced candidates tested are in single digits, according to the polling data, while Trump enjoys a 30-point advantage over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis among this demographic.

"In this group of registered Republicans and Republican leaners, Trump performs better and DeSantis performs worse among women; Trump does better among those in this group without a college degree and DeSantis among those in this group with one. 11 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning voters are unsure of who they would choose in a fictitious Primary today in their state.

Only 16% of college-dropout Republicans back DeSantis, putting him 43 points behind Trump. Among graduates, Trump and DeSantis are statistically tied at 33%.

DeSantis struggles with the 45 and older demographic, receiving only 18% compared to Trump's 54%. Additionally, the survey suggests he is unpopular in his home state. Even in the South, where DeSantis hails from, the Florida governor lags 30 points behind the outgoing president, which aligns with Trump's national margin.
