On Monday, Nikki Haley, a former U.N. ambassador, took a different stance from her earlier view and criticized her previous employer as "extremely foolish". This came after previously labeling the indictment of former President Donald Trump as "vendetta politics."

Haley called the accusations "prosecutorial overreach" in her initial response to Trump's indictment last week for allegedly handling sensitive materials improperly. But on Monday, the former governor of South Carolina attacked her former employer on Fox News, claiming that the charges against him indicate that he was "extremely careless with our national security."

"Two things may be true at the same time: first, the DOJ and FBI have lost all credibility with the American people. This will need a full makeover, which we must carry out; simply firing top management won't enough. Haley told Martha MacCallum of Fox News that "two, the second thing can also be true, if this indictment is real, if what it says is indeed the truth, President Trump was extremely careless with our national security."

My husband is set to deploy this weekend, and I'm a military spouse," Haley remarked. "If you are going to talk about what our military is capable of or how we would invade or do anything with one of our opponents, this puts all of our military men and women in peril."

Haley expressed her worry about the "course of the country" and pointed out that this is the former president's second indictment, with more expected to follow.

"We need someone who can win a general election, who can right this country's ship, and who can get us back on track," said Haley.

Following Trump's statement on Truth Social that he had been indicted in the papers investigation, led by Special Counsel Jack Smith, Haley joined a number of her 2024 GOP competitors in defending the former president. Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and conservative radio host Larry Elder all claimed it was an instance of "partisan prosecutions" and the "weaponization" of the legal system.

In a statement released on Friday, Haley said that "this is not how justice should be sought in our society." "The prosecutorial overreach, false standards, and vengeance politics have worn out the American people. It's time to stop focusing on the never-ending drama and diversions.

Trump will show up in court on Tuesday at 3 p.m. to answer charges related to 31 alleged violations of the Espionage Act, one count of "conspiracy to obstruct justice," one count of "withholding a document or record," one count of "corruptly concealing a document or record," one count of "concealing a document in a deferral investigation," one count of "scheme to conceal," and one count of "false statements and representations."
