Former President Barack Obama has returned to the political arena, taking aim at the Republican Party. He expressed concerns about the GOP's adoption of a "big business" approach, arguing that its members have embraced an elitist economic agenda. During a recent visit on David Axelrod's podcast, The Axe Files, he criticized the party's failure to represent its constituents and offered a warning about the consequences of such policies.

In Obama's view, the Republican Party has evolved to embrace cultural populism that capitalizes on feelings of resentment and anger towards a system perceived as rigged. While Obama welcomes a working-class version of the GOP, he likens it more to a country club. Despite a "cultural overlay", he sees they still largely maintain an aristocratic economic agenda.

Former President Obama recently criticized his fellow Republicans for not stepping up as "wise" candidates for the upcoming presidential elections. However, he failed to mention his close friend, President Joe Biden, as the root cause of the current economic crisis that Americans are facing.

Obama suggested that a bright Republican candidate could win over voters by addressing the economy and proposing that the wealthy pay a slightly higher tax rate to benefit working-class communities. He believes he might spend the money differently than Democrats would, with ideas that would present more opportunities for working families.

Senator Tim Scott, a potential GOP candidate in the 2024 election, was also singled out for censure by Obama. Despite praising his party's achievements in racial issues, Scott was rebuked for merely repeating Republican talking points. Obama emphasized that a significant racial disparity still exists in America and urged Republicans to stop making empty promises about equal opportunities.

Former President Obama has a history of criticizing the Republican Party's populist element. Last year, he accused them of being more interested in fueling anger than addressing national problems. Despite the low approval ratings of his former vice president Biden, Americans (especially independents) are dissatisfied with his handling of the economy. The current administration seems eager to divert attention from Biden's failed policies. Meanwhile, Obama suggests that Republicans tend to distract Americans because they lack genuine solutions.
