According to former speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the House of Representatives is currently experiencing a state of paralysis due to the absence of a new speaker. McCarthy predicts that the process of electing a replacement may take a considerable amount of time.

In the wake of a sudden attack by the terrorist organization Hamas, Israel found itself taken by surprise and faced with a declaration of war from its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. As a response to this development, lawmakers have begun expressing their support for Israel.

During a conversation held on Saturday morning, President Biden expressed his commitment to providing comprehensive assistance to the ally nation of Israel, assuring Prime Minister Netanyahu that the United States would offer all necessary forms of support. Without a Speaker of the House, any legislative action pertaining to Israel, such as a resolution of support or funding, is currently at a standstill in the House.

According to Mr. McCarthy's statement to Fox News, the House is currently unable to take any action until they have elected a speaker. It remains uncertain whether this process will occur in a timely manner. The individual in question is a member of the Gang of Eight, a group that is responsible for taking necessary actions to ensure access to important briefings and other relevant information. However, it is worth considering the potential consequences of removing a speaker from their position during their term, as this could potentially create doubt and uncertainty on a global scale.

Last week, Mr. McCarthy was removed from his position of power in the lower chamber after a motion to remove him from the speakership was passed. This motion received support from eight Republicans as well as all Democrats.

The attacks against Israel have been publicly condemned by a group of eight rebels, with Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida leading the charge. Representative Tim Burchett, hailing from Tennessee, has taken a particularly strong stance on the matter by advocating for President Biden to implement sanctions against the terrorist organization. Sanctions are a powerful tool that can be utilized by the United States Congress. However, it is important to note that the responsibility of imposing these sanctions usually falls upon the president.

Representative Kevin Hern from Oklahoma recently made an announcement regarding his decision to withdraw from the race for the speakership. Consequently, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise from Louisiana and Representative Jim Jordan are the sole candidates who have publicly expressed their interest in assuming the role of the speaker.

More than 25% of lawmakers have publicly expressed their support for one of the candidates, but it is important to note that neither candidate has emerged as a clear frontrunner.

A candidate forum has been organized by Temporary Speaker Rep. Patrick McHenry, which is set to take place on Tuesday. During this forum, the two lawmakers will have the opportunity to present their case to their colleagues, explaining why they believe they should be chosen to hold the gavel. It is possible that Republican lawmakers may cast their votes in favor of a nominee as early as Wednesday.

The gang of eight GOP lawmakers have not yet publicly endorsed a candidate, which may result in a prolonged speaker battle similar to the one experienced by Mr. McCarthy earlier this year.
