According to unnamed US officials, CNN has reported that the Pentagon has deployed 2,000 Marines and sailors to the waters near Israel's coast. This deployment is being described as a "show of force" in the region. The decision to take action arises in the midst of ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian militants, resulting in a significant loss of life over the past month.

The "rapid response force" is currently en route to Israel aboard the USS Bataan, an amphibious assault ship that was previously stationed in the Gulf of Oman. This mission is being led by the esteemed 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Officials provided this information on Monday. The unit's precise destination was not specified, nor was it mentioned whether it would be joining the two US carrier strike groups currently located in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The purpose of the naval deployments is said to be to convey a message of deterrence to Iran and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. Additionally, certain US warships have been observed patrolling waters in close proximity to the Islamic Republic.

On Sunday, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin issued an order for an additional 2,000 troops to prepare for a potential mission in Israel, focused on providing medical and logistical support. This information has been reported by multiple news agencies.

The Pentagon staff emphasized that the order does not ensure the United States will directly engage in the conflict with Hamas, a militant group based in Gaza. They made it clear that the White House wants to avoid creating the perception that American troops might become entangled in an active and intense war.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the troops being deployed are primarily assigned to provide advice and medical assistance, rather than engaging in combat. The troops are not intended to serve in a combat capacity. This information was initially reported by the Wall Street Journal, which also highlighted the preparations being made for their deployment.

The 2,000 soldiers have been strategically positioned across various regions, such as the Middle East and Europe. However, they have been put on alert and are prepared to mobilize within a span of 24 hours, should the need arise.

The officials have stated that the purpose of the move is to prevent a larger conflict in the region. However, there are certain US lawmakers who are advocating for direct military intervention in the Middle East.

In a recent interview with CNN, Senator Lindsey Graham, a prominent Republican, expressed his stance on the ongoing conflict involving Israel. He firmly stated that in the event of a further intensification of this war, he holds Iran responsible and believes it is imperative to send them a clear message.

When questioned about the possibility of Washington initiating a military strike on Iran, even in the absence of concrete evidence linking the country to the Hamas-led terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, Graham responded affirmatively by saying, "Yes."

The recent rocket and ground assault carried out by Gaza on Israeli cities has resulted in a prolonged period of conflict. In response, the Israel Defense Forces have initiated retaliatory airstrikes targeting the Palestinian enclave. According to local authorities, the recent escalation in Israel has resulted in the loss of approximately 1,400 lives. Conversely, Palestinian officials have reported a higher number of casualties, with over 2,800 fatalities in Gaza.
