Putin Seeks Chinese Support: President Putin to Meet Chinese Leader Xi Jinping in Beijing

On Wednesday, the Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to hold talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Since the military offensive in Ukraine, which resulted in Moscow facing international isolation, Putin has been relying more on Beijing for trade and political backing.

According to the Kremlin, the discussions are scheduled to occur alongside a conference commemorating ten years of China's Belt and Road Initiative. The statement mentioned that international and regional issues will be given significant focus during the talks, but did not provide any further details.

Putin's visit marks a significant event as it is his first visit to a major global power since the Ukraine conflict commenced in February of the previous year.

On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Beijing in preparation for President Putin's upcoming visit. This visit is taking place during a period of increased tensions surrounding the Israel-Gaza war.
