According to a US defense official, an attack drone was successfully intercepted and shot down by American forces on Friday in the vicinity of a military base in western Iraq.

The United States recently conducted airstrikes on two military facilities in eastern Syria that are utilized by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and associated groups. These strikes were carried out in response to a surge in attacks against American forces in the region, which the United States attributes to these Iranian-backed entities. Following these airstrikes, there was an attempted drone attack.

According to a US defense official who spoke to AFP, the United States military encountered a one-way attack drone near Al-Assad Air Base in Iraq. The US forces effectively intercepted and destroyed the drone, and the incident concluded without any additional complications.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a group responsible for multiple attacks on US and allied forces in Iraq and Syria, has recently claimed responsibility for a drone attack on a military base.

According to a US official, a "multi-rocket attack" occurred in Syria on Thursday, targeting American and other forces belonging to the international coalition fighting against the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group.

According to the official, there were no casualties or damage to infrastructure.

On Thursday night, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin made an announcement regarding the American strikes on two facilities in Syria that are linked to Iran. He stated that these strikes were carried out in response to a series of attacks against US personnel in Iraq and Syria. These attacks were primarily orchestrated by militia groups that are backed by Iran.

The Middle East is currently witnessing an increase in attacks targeting American forces. These attacks are believed to be connected to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The war between the two parties was triggered by a surprise cross-border attack carried out by Hamas from Gaza on October 7. Israeli officials claim that this attack resulted in the deaths of over 1,400 individuals.

Currently, there are approximately 2,500 American troops stationed in Iraq and around 900 in Syria. These deployments are part of a larger strategy aimed at preventing the reemergence of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group. At one point, IS had gained significant control over territories in both Iraq and Syria. However, through a combination of local ground forces and international air strikes, IS was gradually pushed back, resulting in a prolonged and violent conflict.
