President Joe Biden made a claim regarding the viewing of pictures depicting beheaded children in the aftermath of Hamas's attack on Israel. However, the White House has since retracted this statement.

The reversal occurred following President Biden's statement on Wednesday, where he recounted his experience of viewing distressing images of children who had been mutilated during a meeting with Jewish leaders at the White House.

In a statement, President Biden expressed his disbelief and shock at the sight of confirmed images depicting terrorists beheading children. He went on to describe the attack that occurred on Saturday as the most devastating day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

In the aftermath of Saturday's attack, there has been a proliferation of unverified claims circulating on social media regarding the beheading of Israeli children and the sexual assault of hostages by the Palestinian armed group. These claims have gained significant traction and have been widely shared online.

During a live broadcast, Nicole Zedek, a reporter from the Tel Aviv-based news channel i24, made claims that sparked widespread attention. Zedek stated that she had personally spoken to Israeli soldiers who claimed to have witnessed instances of decapitated babies.

The president's comments, as stated by a White House spokesperson in response to inquiries from The Washington Post, were informed by news reports and assertions made by the Israeli government.

According to a report from The Post on Wednesday, a spokesperson from the White House provided clarification regarding the claims made by stating that neither US officials nor the president have personally viewed any photographs or independently verified the accuracy of these reports.

According to the White House, the president's comments regarding the alleged atrocities were derived from information provided by Netanyahu's spokesman and media reports from Israel.

Biden's statements have garnered significant attention in Western newspapers, with some quarters using reports of beheaded babies as a rationale for seeking revenge and imposing collective punishment on civilians in Gaza.

The claims made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's spokesperson, Tal Heinrich, were reiterated on Wednesday. However, the Israeli army has stated that it is unable to verify these claims.

According to Israeli military officials, there have been reports indicating that women and children were subjected to a form of violence reminiscent of the actions carried out by ISIS.

Hamas has refuted allegations suggesting that its fighters engaged in acts of beheading children and assaulting women, dismissing such claims as false and baseless.

An investigation conducted by Al Jazeera has revealed that social media platforms like Facebook, X, and TikTok have become inundated with false information regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Among the various platforms available, it seems that Elon Musk's X platform has been particularly susceptible to the dissemination of unverified information pertaining to the war. This includes the circulation of claims regarding beheadings and rapes.
