Despite the impression that they did, Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio did not share a screen in any of the nearly three decades' worth of Karate Kid films. According to the deadline, that will alter in the upcoming chapter.
Although the story's official details are unknown, Macchio will portray Daniel LaRusso, the karate champion Pat Morita's Mr. Miyagi trained, much like he did in 1984. In the 2010 Karate Kid remake, Chan reprised his role as Mr. Han, the kung fu expert who assisted Jaden Smith in fending off bullies. The director is Jonathan Entwistle.
The intrigue behind the title character's casting: A worldwide search got underway on Tuesday. This time, the Hollywood Reporter says, the plot will take place on the East Coast and center around a Chinese adolescent who receives guidance from—wait for it—"a tough but wise mentor."
